Arlington, Va. — The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) today announced that Nathan Paul Romano has joined its national board of directors. Romano is a leading mental health advocate, having joined the board of NAMI-NYC in 2006 and now serving as president emeritus.

“We are pleased to welcome Nathan to the NAMI national board of directors,” said Daniel H. Gillison Jr., NAMI chief executive officer. “He brings exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to mental health. His perspective and experience will strengthen our work across the country as we continue ensuring that no one has to navigate mental health challenges alone.”

Romano is co-founder and co-chief executive officer of Collaborative Capital Advisors and previously held senior leadership roles at Atalaya Capital Management, York Capital Management, Goldman Sachs & Co., Credit Suisse, and Bear Stearns.

“Nathan’s experience leading complex organizations and advising at the highest levels will be a strong asset to the national board,” said Jeff Fladen, president of the NAMI board of directors. “His governance perspective and commitment to the Alliance will help guide NAMI’s long-term growth and stewardship.”

Romano is also non-executive chairman of Evio, a mental health and wellness-focused venture firm, and serves on several nonprofit and advisory boards, including Squire Patton Boggs, the University of Southern California’s men’s tennis program, The Goodness Web, and the Compassionate Leadership in Finance program. He has formerly served on the boards of the Investment Management Division of UJA, the Managed Funds Association, and the Museum of the City of New York.

“NAMI has been central to my work in mental health advocacy for many years,” Romano said. “I look forward to advancing the organization’s mission and strengthening its impact across communities nationwide. As the only child of a single mother with bipolar disorder, I have seen firsthand the unnecessary suffering that families experience due to stigma, limited access to quality care, and a lack of parity in mental health coverage. On the other hand, I have seen the incredibly important role family and community can play in keeping a loved one safe and on a road to recovery. It is an honor to extend my work from NAMI-NYC to the national organization and continue to drive better outcomes for all.”

Romano earned his MBA with honors from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his undergraduate degree in finance and entrepreneurship from the University of Southern California where he was a walk-on for the men’s tennis team. He resides in Westchester, New York, with his wife and three children.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
